Forest and Environment Minister Aain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has shared the achievements of his one-year tenure.
Focus on Balanced Forest Development and Green Economy
Minister Thakuri said the ministry has focused on balanced development of forest areas, adopting a green economy approach, and increasing timber production to make the country self-reliant.
Employment Generation and Policy Reforms
He revealed that 41,000 people have been directly employed in forest-related enterprises this year. The ministry has also improved services through policy and procedural reforms.
Historic Success in Carbon Trading and Foreign Aid Agreements
The minister highlighted historic success in carbon trading and mentioned agreements secured for foreign aid to support forest, environmental protection, and climate initiatives.
Support for Himalayan Livelihoods and Sustainable Timber Use
Minister Thakuri also noted the preparation and implementation of guidelines for the sustainable collection of Yarsagumba to support livelihoods in the Himalayan region. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to utilizing dried and rotten timber to clean forest areas and increase timber use.

Minister Thakuri described his one-year term as generally successful, with special efforts made to bring project development and financing into Nepal.
