A new report shows that only 43.1% of schools in Nepal have access to the internet. This is much lower than the government’s target of reaching 95% of schools.
This data comes from the annual report of the Office of the Auditor General for the fiscal year 2080/81. The report highlights how the digital gap is still a big issue in Nepal’s education system.
Along with internet access, the number of students taking technical subjects in secondary education is also very low. Currently, only 2.7% of students in secondary schools study technical subjects.
In higher education, the situation is slightly better. Around 20.72% of students are enrolled in technical and vocational courses.
The report also mentioned that only 38% of people from the working-age group have received any kind of technical or vocational training. This shows a gap between education and employment skills in Nepal.
Despite promises, Nepal’s digital education goals are far from being met. The government still has a long way to go in improving internet access and technical education across the country.
