The AI Action Summit held in Paris emphasized a human-centered, rights-based, and ethical approach to artificial intelligence (AI).Focusing on safety and security, the summit called for immediate action to address inequalities and support capacity building in developing nations.
Co-chaired by India and France, the summit concluded with a joint statement signed by 58 countries, including the European Union and the African Union. However, the United States and the United Kingdom declined to sign the declaration. The summit highlighted the importance of strengthening diversity within the AI ecosystem. It adopted an open, multi-stakeholder, and inclusive approach to ensure AI remains human rights-based, ethical, safe, secure, and reliable.
The summit underscored the need to reduce inequalities and assist developing countries in enhancing their AI capabilities. It also acknowledged the significance of existing initiatives, such as the United Nations General Assembly’s proposal for a Global Digital Compact.
Key priorities set during the summit included expanding AI accessibility, ensuring ethical AI development, fostering innovation, and promoting the sustainable growth of AI.
