A branch officer responsible for handling complaints at Pokhara Metropolitan City has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) office in Pokhara caught Kapil Giri red-handed while taking money from a service seeker in front of the metropolitan office at New Road.
Giri was the coordinator of the Complaint Resolution and Coordination Branch of the metropolis. His role involved collecting opinions from wards and departments regarding complaints filed with the CIAA and sending responses accordingly.
According to Rakesh Pandey, the information officer at the CIAA Pokhara office, Giri had demanded Rs. 1 lakh from a service seeker, claiming that a complaint had been filed against them and needed to be settled. “A fake complaint was created to extort money,” Pandey said, adding that Giri also misled the victim by showing them false photos and videos as proof of the complaint.
Further investigation is underway, and Giri will be handed over to the authorities within 24 hours for legal action.
