Police Complete Investigation on Tinkune Clash: 108 Set to Face Charges

The police have officially completed their investigation into the violent pro-monarchy protest that took place in Tinkune on Chaitra 15, 2081. After nearly two months of investigation, the Kathmandu District Police Office has submitted its final report to the District Government Attorney’s Office.

According to the report, 108 individuals are recommended for prosecution on various serious charges including attempted murder, treason, organized crime, and violent disruption. Out of these, 53 are currently in custody, while others are either on the run or under investigation outside of detention.

Government attorney Ramhari Sharma confirmed the report has been received. Although the case was expected to be filed today, it was delayed due to lack of time. The charges will now be officially registered this Sunday.

Prominent figures involved include Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leaders like MP Dhawal Shamsher Rana and Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra. Both were arrested the night of the protest after visiting injured demonstrators at B&B Hospital. Durga Prasai, who allegedly led the protest, was arrested later from India.

The large number of accused led police to expand the investigation team, bringing in units from Kathmandu Valley Crime Division and other offices across Lalitpur and Teku. The legal deadline to submit organized crime cases is 60 days from arrest, which means the case must reach Kathmandu District Court before Jestha 15.

Once the charges are filed, all those out on bail, including RPP leaders and others, will be summoned to court. This case is expected to be one of the biggest political prosecutions in recent years in Nepal.
