Prakriti Lamsal’s Body

The body of Prakriti Lamsal, who was found dead at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in India, is set to be brought back to Nepal today.

According to her family, Nepal’s embassy in India is working with local authorities, security officials, and the college to arrange the repatriation. Her aunt, Sita Dhakal, said the body is expected to arrive in Nepal by tonight.

Investigation and Protests

After hearing about Prakriti’s suspicious death, her father, Sunil Lamsal, traveled to Odisha to seek justice. On Tuesday, he met with police officials and demanded a thorough investigation.

The 20-year-old student was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday afternoon. Following the news, students protested demanding justice for her. However, the university administration cracked down on the protesters instead.

University Faces Backlash

After heavy criticism, the university fired some staff members and suspended others. A professor, Manjusha Pandey, who allegedly threatened Nepali students, has also apologized.

The case was even raised in Odisha’s legislative assembly, prompting the Odisha government to form a high-level committee to investigate.

Suspect Arrested

Police have arrested Adwik Srivastav, who was accused of blackmailing Prakriti. He is now in judicial custody while the investigation continues.

KIIT has been criticized for ignoring complaints against Srivastav despite evidence of repeated harassment. Instead of protecting Prakriti, the college allegedly supported the accused.

The case has sparked outrage among students in both Nepal and India, and discussions have even reached parliament.
