Preity Zinta Apologises to Fans for Curt Behaviour After IPL Match Halted

In an unexpected turn of events during the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals last Thursday, the match was abruptly called off after just 10.1 overs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. Actor and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta later took to social media to express her appreciation for fans’ composure during the evacuation, and addressed the sudden developments.

Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Preity described the past few days as “crazy” and extended heartfelt thanks to Indian Railways and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for ensuring the safe and smooth transportation of both teams, officials, and their families from Dharamshala. She also acknowledged the support of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Punjab Kings’ CEO Satish Menon, BCCI’s Arun Dhumal, and the franchise’s operations team for swiftly coordinating the evacuation.

A Heartfelt Apology and Thanks

Addressing the crowd present during the disrupted match, Preity conveyed deep gratitude: “Thank you, thank you, thank you for not panicking and preventing any stampede. You all were amazing.” She also offered a personal apology for appearing stern at the time, explaining that safety was her top priority. “I’m sorry I was a bit curt & said no to pictures with everyone, but it was my responsibility to make sure everyone stayed safe,” she added.

Match Cancelled Amid Security Concerns

The match’s cancellation came after air raid alerts were issued in nearby Jammu and Pathankot due to escalating border tensions. All players, officials, and broadcasters were safely relocated to Delhi via train. Videos circulating online showed Preity on the ground, urging fans to calmly vacate the stadium after the announcement was made.

In light of the security situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a temporary suspension of the IPL for one week.
