Priyanka Chopra's Challenging Role in Bajirao Mastani

Priyanka Chopra has captivated audiences with her exceptional performances, and one of her most memorable roles was as ‘Kashibai’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Her portrayal opposite Ranveer Singh, who played the iconic Peshwa Bajirao, earned her widespread praise from fans and critics alike. In a recent interview, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, opened up about the actress’s experience working on the film and shared her thoughts on Priyanka’s career.

Despite the grandeur of the film and its compelling storyline, it was Priyanka’s nuanced expressions as Kashibai that left a lasting impact. When asked to choose her favorite performances from Priyanka’s impressive career, Madhu named Barfi! and Bajirao Mastani as the top contenders. She acknowledged that the role of Kashibai was one of the most demanding for Priyanka, calling it a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Madhu explained that Priyanka’s focus during the shoot of Bajirao Mastani was crucial, especially since many of her scenes required close-up shots where facial expressions were everything. She shared that Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for his perfectionism, made sure that Priyanka’s performance was flawless. To stay in the right mindset, Priyanka would avoid distractions, even staying silent inside her van before filming. “Sanjay Bhansali is not an easy director, and pleasing him was always the target,” Madhu added, highlighting her daughter’s dedication.

When asked about Priyanka’s reaction to not being offered the lead role in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Madhu chose not to comment but did mention that Priyanka was thrilled when she was later approached for the film Mary Kom, produced by Bhansali.

In Bajirao Mastani, Deepika Padukone played the titular character of Mastani, a dancer, singer, and warrior, while Priyanka’s Kashibai was a key emotional anchor in the story. Released in 2015, the film became an instant classic.

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra was last seen in the lead role of Citadel as Nadia Sinh. Additionally, she had four major film releases in 2024, including To Kill a Tiger, Women of My Billion, Born Hungry, and Anuja, all of which she also produced. Looking ahead, Priyanka is expected to appear in Heads of State, The Bluff, and season two of Citadel. She is also working on an exciting project with SS Rajamouli, starring alongside Mahesh Babu, though fans are eagerly awaiting official details.
