In 2000, Priyanka Chopra achieved a major milestone by winning the Miss India title and later being crowned Miss World. Her mother, Madhu Chopra, recently opened up in an interview about the challenges Priyanka faced after winning the prestigious title, especially when they returned to their hometown of Bareilly.
Madhu shared that the reception in Bareilly was far from welcoming. She recalled, โThe reception we received in Bareilly was not kind at all. The state officials said it was female exploitation and that they wouldnโt accept it. There was an idea that the winner must be welcomed back in her hometown, but that didnโt happen.โ
Madhu further explained, โThe plan was to go back to Bareilly, and even the Chief Ministerโs office had given their approval. But suddenly, they cited a law and order issue as an excuse. We were really upset about this situation.โ
Last September, Priyanka revisited the place in London where she was crowned Miss World, attending a concert with her husband, Nick Jonas. Priyankaโs career journey continued with her debut in Tamil cinema with Thamizhan (2002), followed by her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).
Looking ahead, Priyanka is gearing up for a collaboration with director SS Rajamouli in his upcoming project alongside Mahesh Babu. She hinted at this new chapter during her recent trip to Hyderabad, with an official announcement expected soon. Priyanka will also star in the American action-comedy Heads of State, alongside Idris Elba and John Cena.
