PSG wrapped up their Ligue 1 season on Saturday night with a solid 3-1 comeback win over Auxerre. The champions came from behind to claim their 26th league win of the campaign and now look ahead to two major finals.
Paris had already clinched the Ligue 1 title on April 5 after beating Angers, with six matches still to play. It marked their fourth consecutive league title.
Auxerre stun early, but PSG hit back
Despite already being crowned champions, PSG showed their fighting spirit after going behind. Auxerre took a surprise lead in the 30th minute through Lassine Sinayoko.
But Luis Enrique’s side responded quickly in the second half. Within just eight minutes, Paris turned the game around.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia equalized in the 59th minute with a powerful finish. Then, in the 67th minute, Marquinhos headed home from a corner to give Paris Saint-Germain the lead.
Kvaratskhelia seals victory for PSG
Although Gonçalo Ramos missed a chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot, Kvaratskhelia stepped up again in the 88th minute to score his second and PSG’s third of the match, making the final score 3-1.
Two more trophies in PSG’s sights
PSG’s season is far from over. They will play Reims in the French Cup final on May 24, followed by a massive Champions League final clash against Inter Milan on May 31.
Earlier this year, Paris had already won the French Super Cup by defeating Monaco in January. This means Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain could end the season with four major trophies.
Club World Cup preparations underway
The Parisian giants are also preparing to represent France in the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in June.
