Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, visited Damascus and assured his country’s strong support for Syria’s unity, independence, and sovereignty.

According to a statement from Qatar’s Emiri Diwan, Al Thani met with Syria’s interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, on Thursday. They discussed the latest developments in Syria, ways to improve relations between the two countries, and important regional and international issues.

Al Thani emphasized the need for a government representing all Syrians to ensure stability, reconstruction, and long-term development. He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people’s struggle for unity, justice, and freedom.

President al-Sharaa thanked Qatar for its continued support and said that both countries would work closely together in various sectors in the coming days.

Later, Al Thani posted on social media platform X, saying the meeting was positive and hopeful for Syria’s future and the strong bond between the two nations.

This visit marks the first time an Arab leader has traveled to Damascus since Syria’s government changed last December. Syria’s interim administration is now trying to rebuild relations with neighboring countries after years of isolation due to the civil war.

Earlier this month, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also visited Damascus for discussions with Syrian officials.

On the same day, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. They talked about strengthening ties and the latest developments in Syria. Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to resolving regional conflicts and working with its partners to promote peace and stability.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry also stressed the importance of a united national army that includes all Syrian groups. It stated that having one strong military force is necessary to protect Syria’s sovereignty and ensure a peaceful political transition.
