Queen Latifah to Honor Quincy Jones at Oscars

Rapper and singer Queen Latifah is set to honor the legendary Quincy Jones with a special tribute at the 97th Academy Awards. Jones, a renowned record producer, composer, and bandleader, has an impressive career spanning decades, earning 28 Grammy Awards among other accolades.

During a press conference, executive producer Raj Kapoor shared the news, revealing that one of the highlights of this year’s Oscars will be a musical performance dedicated to Quincy Jones. “Weโ€™ve worked hard to create a performance that truly pays homage to Quincyโ€™s legacy,” Kapoor stated. He confirmed that Queen Latifah will play a key role in this tribute, as reported by Variety.

Earlier in the year, Jones was honored with the Governorโ€™s Award, a testament to his incredible contributions to the music and entertainment industries. Kapoor elaborated on the tribute, saying, “Weโ€™ve curated a beautiful moment that captures the spirit of Quincy and all his greatness. It will be uplifting and celebratory, ensuring the audience feels the impact of his work.”

The Oscars ceremony will also showcase a ‘Wicked’ medley featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, alongside performances by Blackpink’s Lisa, who stars in The White Lotus, as well as Doja Cat and Raye. Additionally, the Los Angeles Master Chorale is set to make a special appearance at the prestigious event.

Kapoor also shed light on the overarching themes of the 2025 Academy Awards. According to Variety, this yearโ€™s Oscars will emphasize community, spirit, and appreciation for those who work behind the scenes in the film industry. “Itโ€™s a significant theme, especially given the challenges many have faced. We want to highlight and celebrate the resilience of this amazing city,” Kapoor remarked, indicating that Los Angeles will be honored during the event.

In addition to celebrating cinematic excellence, the Oscars will incorporate a charitable initiative, allowing attendees to engage and donate if they choose. Kapoor, joined by host Conan O’Brien, executive producer Katy Mullan, co-executive producer Rob Paine, producer and writer Mike Sweeney, writer Jon Macks, music director Michael Bearden, production designer Alana Billingsley, and supervising choreographer Mandy Moore, shared insights on this philanthropic endeavor, as reported by Variety.
