Kailali, Nepal – Over 100 foreign nationals from 38 countries, including India, the United States, China, and Japan, have been residing illegally in the Simli jungle of Ghodaghodi Municipality-9, Kailali, despite local authorities’ directive to leave within 24 hours.
Chief District Officer Gogan Bahadur Hamal visited the site last Thursday and issued a warning, instructing the group to vacate the jungle within a day. Although some individuals have complied with the order, approximately 60 to 70 persons remain at the location, with officials anticipating that they may depart within the next day or two.
The foreigners, who initially entered Nepal on tourist visas, have been engaging in activities described as “unusual” by local authorities. They have reportedly been living semi-naked, dancing, singing, and enjoying communal gatherings under the banner of the “Rainbow Family Gathering.” The group identifies itself as “nature lovers” and advocates for a free-spirited, moneyless lifestyle, following principles associated with the independent Rainbow Family—a community known for its natural lifestyle and peace-promoting values.
Although the foreign nationals have not yet left the jungle despite the official order, local administration maintains that no direct harm has been caused to the forest or the neighboring community. In response, authorities have opted to enhance surveillance rather than deploy force.
The situation remains fluid as local officials continue to monitor the area, expecting that the remaining individuals will soon comply with the 24-hour evacuation directive.
