Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf to Skip Big Screen Release

Due to growing tensions between India and Pakistan, along with heightened national security measures, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, have decided to release the film directly on OTT platforms instead of the planned theatrical debut. The film, which was originally set to release in cinemas on May 9, will now premiere on Prime Video on May 16.

The production team, including Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios, shared a statement on Thursday, explaining their decision. The statement read, “Considering the current situation and increased security protocols across the country, we have chosen to bring Bhool Chuk Maaf directly to your screens on May 16, exclusively on Prime Video, worldwide.” They further added, “While we were excited to bring the movie to theaters, the well-being of the nation is our top priority. JAI HIND.”

As a result of these developments, the press screenings scheduled for Delhi and Mumbai were also called off.

The decision to bypass the theatrical release comes amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives. This attack has sparked a significant diplomatic crisis, prompting India’s military response. The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, targeting and destroying nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to dismantle terrorist infrastructure. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that all targets were selected to ensure no civilian casualties.

About the film, Bhool Chuk Maaf is a family entertainer set in Varanasi, with Rajkummar Rao playing Ranjan, a man trapped in a time loop. Every morning, he wakes up on the day of his Haldi ceremony, awaiting his wedding to his girlfriend, Titli. Directed by Karan Sharma, the film also stars Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Raghubir Yadav. Backed by Maddock Films, it promises a unique blend of drama and comedy.
