On February 18, the Supreme Court of India expressed strong disapproval of influencer Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks made during the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The Court took issue with his comments about parents and sex, stating that they reflected a “perverted mind” and would embarrass families and society.
Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, who were hearing the case, questioned Allahbadia’s words, saying they were so inappropriate that they would make daughters, sisters, and parents feel ashamed. “If this is not obscenity, then what is it?” they remarked, adding that Allahbadia’s comments were deeply offensive.
Despite this, the Court granted him temporary protection from arrest, allowing him to avoid immediate legal consequences while the investigation into the matter continues. Allahbadia has been named in multiple FIRs (First Information Reports) filed in connection with the incident, including cases in Maharashtra and Assam.
In the wake of the backlash, the Court ordered Allahbadia to surrender his passport to the Thane police and instructed him not to leave the country without prior approval. His legal team, led by Abhinav Chandrachud (son of former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud), is representing him in the case.
The controversy began when Allahbadia, also known for his BeerBiceps YouTube channel, made an inappropriate comment during the show, asking a contestant if they would like to watch their parents have sex or even join in to stop it. The remark sparked widespread outrage online, leading to the legal action.
