Reduce Petroleum Use, Increase Electricity Use Deuba

Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the ruling Nepali Congress, emphasized the need to reduce the use of petroleum products and increase the use of clean electricity produced domestically.

Speaking at an environment and climate change dialogue program held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Deuba highlighted that increasing electricity use will not only reduce the trade deficit but also positively impact the economy.

He pointed out that many tasks can be done using electricity instead of petroleum products, urging greater adoption of electric vehicles and electrical appliances.

Deuba also stressed that increasing electricity use will help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Further, he emphasized the importance of climate education in schools and universities, early warning systems in flood-affected areas, irrigation and clean drinking water in dry Terai regions, soil erosion prevention in landslide-prone hilly areas, conservation of glaciers, and proper waste management in the mountains. He urged the implementation of programs at the local community level addressing these issues.
