Robert Pattinson is reportedly in early discussions to join the star-studded cast of Dune 3, the highly anticipated final installment of Denis Villeneuve’s hit Dune franchise. If the talks go through, Pattinson would take on a pivotal role as the villain. He is said to be eyed for the character of Scytale, a mysterious and shape-shifting antagonist who is part of a plot to overthrow Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) in the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel, Dune: Messiah.
The film will bring back familiar faces, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh, with filming set to begin this summer. This follows the massive success of Dune: Part 2, which grossed over $12 billion and won eight Oscars from 15 nominations. Legendary Studios has confirmed that Dune 3 is officially in development.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Villeneuve revealed that Dune 3 will mark the end of the current Dune saga. While the previous two films adapted the first book of Herbert’s series, Villeneuve emphasized that Dune 3 won’t be part of a typical trilogy. He described the project as something unique that will carry its own identity, distinguishing it from the first two films.
As for Robert Pattinson, he’s currently working on Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey and has recently completed filming The Drama, an A24 film alongside Zendaya. Additionally, he wrapped up his role in Die, My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay, where he stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence. This film is expected to hit theaters later this year.
