Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has officially retired from Test cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable 11-year-long red-ball career. The announcement came on May 7, marking the conclusion of a journey that began in 2013. Known for his calm leadership and stylish batting, Sharma will now focus solely on ODIs, having already retired from T20Is last year.
A Stellar Test Career of Rohit Sharma
Over the course of his Test career, the 38-year-old played 67 matches, scoring 4301 runs in 116 innings with an average of 40.58. His record includes 12 centuries, 18 half-centuries, and a career-best score of 212 runs. As a captain, Sharma led India in 24 Tests, winning 12, losing 9, and drawing 3 matches.
Devendra Fadnavis Felicitates Sharma
Following his retirement, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honored Sharma in a personal meeting at his official residence, Varsha. Fadnavis congratulated the former Test skipper and presented him with a floral garland as a gesture of respect.

Wankhede Stand Named After Sharma
Last month, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) also paid tribute to the legendary batter by naming a stand at Wankhede Stadium after him — a fitting honor in his home city.
Still Shining in the IPL
While Sharma has stepped back from Test and T20I formats, he remains active in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, playing for Mumbai Indians (MI). So far, he has scored 300 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 152.28, including three half-centuries. MI currently sits at fourth place on the points table, with the league set to restart on May 17.
As Sharma steps into a new chapter, cricket fans across the nation continue to celebrate the legacy of one of India’s finest modern-day cricketers.
