British star Rosamund Pike has opened up about a deeply unsettling experience from nearly two decades ago — a violent mugging that left both her and her mother shaken.
During a candid interview on Magic Radio, the Gone Girl actress reflected on the traumatic 2006 incident, which occurred while she was taking a casual stroll through London, chatting on her mobile phone with her mother.
“I was just walking down the road, talking to my mum, and suddenly I was mugged,” Pike recounted. The calm of the moment shattered instantly as a cyclist swooped past, ripping the phone from her hand mid-conversation. “The only thing my mother heard was me scream and then a thud — and then silence,” Pike said.
But the attack didn’t end with the theft. Pike revealed that the assailant also struck her. “He punched me down the side of my cheek,” she recalled, describing the sudden violence that turned a regular day into a terrifying ordeal.
Though she felt a surge of anger in the moment, Pike said her thoughts quickly turned to her mother, who was left in a panic after the call abruptly ended. “I walked straight to the pub to meet my friends and called her from there,” Pike said. “But for her, not knowing what happened, those 15 minutes must’ve been awful.”
The 46-year-old London-born actress has since become known for her powerful performances in major films such as Die Another Day, Pride & Prejudice, Jack Reacher, and Saltburn. Her portrayal of Amy Dunne in Gone Girl earned her critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Now, nearly 20 years later, Pike’s recollection sheds light on the vulnerability behind the poised public persona — a rare glimpse into a moment that left a lasting impression on both the actress and her family.
