Roshani Shahi Found Dead in Bhaktapur, Alleged Suicide Note Mentions Son

Roshani Shahi, a 50-year-old woman originally from Jajarkot, was found dead inside her rented room in Balkot, Bhaktapur on Sunday afternoon.

According to Bhaktapur SP Madhav Budhathoki, her body was discovered at around 1:50 PM after neighbors reported that she had not opened her door. Police, accompanied by local representatives, broke in and found her dead.

Shahi had been living alone in a three-story house owned by Laxmi Shwor Mahato in Suryabinayak Municipality–3. Her son is currently in the United States, and her husband was reportedly out of the Kathmandu Valley for work.

Police recovered a two-page note at the scene believed to be a suicide note. Although forensic verification is pending, the content of the note focuses solely on her son. One passage reportedly reads:

Son, I couldn’t do anything for you while I lived. There’s no point in living anymore. Sorry.

Police confirmed there were no visible injuries on her body, and the case is under investigation. Shahi was previously known in connection with a high-profile rape case involving former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, in which Mahara was acquitted.
