Comedian Samay Raina recently found himself at the center of controversy after his online show India’s Got Latent came under fire for allegedly mocking people with disabilities. What began as a typical episode filled with jokes and banter took a serious turn, leading to nationwide backlash, multiple FIRs, and even discussions in Parliament.
Supreme Court appearance and viral moment
On Tuesday, Samay appeared before the Supreme Court to submit a written apology. He wasn’t alone — fellow comedians Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar , and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar were also present. As paparazzi surrounded him for a quote, Samay gave a sharp yet funny reply:
“Wahin kahenge na, aapko thodhi kahenge”
This clip quickly went viral, with social media users praising his calm, witty demeanor in a tense moment.
A cheeky nod to Mohak Mangal
In another video from outside the court, a reporter asked if he wanted to comment on the controversy. Without skipping a beat, Samay replied, “I support Mohak Mangal,” referring to the popular YouTuber. The response added another viral moment to the day, showing Samay still had his humor intact despite the pressure.
Serious side: Apology to the NCW
The legal trouble stems from remarks made on India’s Got Latent, which were considered offensive to both people with disabilities and women. Alongside the court appearance, Samay also went before the National Commission for Women (NCW), where he submitted a written apology for the comments made during the show.
Instagram appreciation for his lawyer
Later in the day, Samay posted an Instagram Story featuring his lawyer, Himanshu Shekhar, calling him his “main man.” It was a simple yet heartfelt gesture, showing his appreciation for his legal support during this challenging period.
The bigger picture
Earlier this year, Samay and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia were booked in both Maharashtra and Assam under similar charges. While the legal process continues, Samay’s recent court appearance suggests he’s taking steps toward accountability—without losing the humor that made him a fan favorite in the first place.
