Scarlett Johansson has officially become Hollywood’s highest grossing lead actress, thanks to her latest blockbuster, Jurassic World Rebirth. The film, which hit theaters on July 2, earned an impressive $318 million worldwide in its first six days, boosting Johansson’s total lead role box office gross to $14.8 billion.
This new milestone puts Johansson ahead of fellow Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson. While she is best known for playing Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jurassic World Rebirth marks a fresh chapter in her career, where she plays Zora Bennett, a former military expert leading a mission on a dinosaur-inhabited island.
More than $8.7 billion of Johansson’s total comes from Marvel hits like the Avengers series, Captain America: Civil War, and Iron Man 2. She also lent her voice to the porcupine character Ash in the animated Sing films.
In comparison, Robert Downey Jr.’s total stands at $14.2 billion, mostly from his nine Marvel movies. Samuel L. Jackson, who previously held the top spot, now ranks just behind Johansson with $14.6 billion, including his roles in The Incredibles films.
With upcoming Marvel projects like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, RDJ may have a chance to reclaim the top spot. However, Johansson has indicated she is unlikely to return to the MCU anytime soon.
Jurassic World Rebirth continues the story after the Jurassic World trilogy, with Johansson’s character navigating dangerous islands where dinosaurs still roam free.
