A tragic incident unfolded in Dhanusha district as a female teacher was found hanging inside her school classroom. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Bimala Kumari Dhrongching Magar, a teacher at the Janata National Basic School in Mithila Municipality-8, Jamunibas.
According to the District Police Office, Dhanusha, Bimala was discovered around 4:45 AM on July 16 (1st Shrawan) inside the school’s early childhood development classroom.
Police investigation points to debt-related pressure
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bimala had borrowed Rs. 3.2 lakh from a local moneylender, 55-year-old Rajkishor Yadav of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City-9. A suicide note was recovered from the storage compartment of her scooter (registered J 11 P 7492), parked near the school premises.
DSP Barun Bahadur Singh, spokesperson for the Dhanusha police, confirmed that Yadav was arrested on July 17 (2nd Shrawan) and has been charged with abetment of suicide.
Accused allegedly used threats and harassment over false claims
Although Bimala had reportedly repaid her loan, police say Yadav had taken a blank cheque from her and later filled in an amount of Rs. 45 lakh. He allegedly used this cheque to intimidate her with legal threats, demanding more money.
“Yadav repeatedly harassed her mentally, made threats, and tried to publicly humiliate her,” DSP Singh said, citing findings from the ongoing investigation.
Police raided Yadav’s house and recovered several documents, including 9 original and duplicate loan agreements, 23 land ownership certificates, as well as numerous bank vouchers and cheques issued in different names.
Family claims financial threat led to tragedy
Family members said that only a few close relatives were aware of the loan Bimala had taken. They also revealed that Yadav had come to her home on July 15 (Asar 32) to pressure her for repayment. He allegedly threatened to bounce the cheque and send her to jail if she failed to pay.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether others were involved and to examine the broader pattern of illegal moneylending in the area.
