Weezer Bassist Wife's Jillian Lauren Shot by LAPD, Charged with Attempted Murder

Jillian Lauren, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by Los Angeles police on Tuesday, April 8, during a tense encounter in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Authorities later arrested her on suspicion of attempted murder.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers were helping California Highway Patrol track down a suspect who had fled a three-car collision on the 134 Freeway. While officers were establishing a perimeter, they encountered Lauren standing in her front yard holding a handgun.

Police say they repeatedly ordered Lauren to drop the weapon. Instead, she allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to open fire. Lauren was struck in the shoulder but managed to retreat into her home. A short time later, she exited the house with a babysitter and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officials confirmed Lauren had no connection to the initial hit-and-run investigation. Nevertheless, she was arrested and booked for attempted murder based on her alleged actions toward the officers. A 9mm handgun was recovered from her home.

Lauren was treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No officers or civilians were harmed during the confrontation.

Best known for her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (2010) and Everything You Ever Wanted (2015), Lauren has been married to Shriner since 2005. The couple shares two children.

Meanwhile, Scott Shriner has not publicly addressed the incident. Weezer is still slated to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 12, during the event’s opening weekend.
