Police have arrested seven people in Kathmandu for displaying weapons while cutting a cake and spreading fear through social media.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, they were arrested from different parts of the city on Wednesday.
The arrested individuals include:
- Roman Ale (29) from Dhading, living in Pavitranagar, Kathmandu.
- Manohar Thapa Magar (36) from Tanahun, living in Pavitranagar.
- Suman Parajuli (27) from Gorkha, living in Pavitranagar.
- Roshan Tamang (26) from Kavre, living in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.
- Gun Bahadur Gurung (39) from Tanahun, living in Pavitranagar.
- Padam Bahadur Magar (29) from Gorkha, living in Pavitranagar.
- Gopal Moktan (39) is from Dolakha and lives in Sukheshwor, Kathmandu.
According to SSP Ramesh Kumar Basnet, the suspects, part of a group of 10-15 people, posted videos on social media, including TikTok, showing them cutting a cake with swords and khukuris.
“Their background is under investigation, and they have been sent to the District Police Office in Bhadra Kali for further action,” SSP Basnet said. “Our operation against gangsters has begun.”
After taking charge as the new office head last Friday, Basnet announced increased surveillance on criminal activities in the capital.
