Sewage from local market floods Simkot Airport, creates sanitation crisis

Just like previous monsoon seasons, sewage water from Simikot’s local market has again flooded the Simikot Airport premises, creating health and sanitation concerns.

According to airport chief Mahendra Singh, the parking area now resembles a dumping site, with waste water, plastic materials, and food waste flowing in from the nearby market.

Pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar facing difficulty

Every year, especially during the monsoon, many Indian pilgrims arrive in Humla via Nepalgunj on their journey to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar. However, the current unhygienic condition of the airport is making their travel experience unpleasant.

Singh said that the stench from the sewage and garbage is becoming a major issue for both domestic and international visitors.

Despite repeated cleaning efforts by airport staff and security personnel, the problem remains unresolved due to the continuous flow of sewage from the market area.

Repeated pleas to authorities go unheard

Singh also shared that numerous requests have been made to local authorities to address the issue, but no permanent solution has been implemented. The problem continues to affect tourism and poses risks to health and safety.
