Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has received clearance to resume bowling after passing a reassessment of his bowling action. With this approval, he can once again bowl his left-arm spin in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and various leagues worldwide, following his retirement from Test and T20 cricket.
“The news is true—I am cleared to bowl again,” Shakib confirmed to Cricbuzz. However, he did not disclose where he underwent the third reassessment of his action.
Shakib’s last competitive match was against India in the second Test in Kanpur in October 2024. However, in December, he was suspended from bowling after his action was deemed illegal during an English County game for Surrey in September. Testing at Loughborough University confirmed the issue, leading to the ban.
In January, the 37-year-old took another test in Chennai but failed to get his action cleared. As a result, he was not selected for Bangladesh’s squad in the ICC Champions Trophy, which he had hoped would be his final international tournament.
With his bowling ban lifted, Shakib could return to Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. He is not currently part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Pakistan Super League (PSL), as he went unsold in both last year’s IPL auction and the PSL draft in January.
