Forever Michael: Tower Records Shibuya Honors Michael Jackson on 16th Death Anniversary

Today marks the 16th anniversary of the passing of global music icon Michael Jackson. Known as the “King of Pop,” Jackson left an indelible mark on music, dance, and pop culture. Fans around the world are remembering the legendary performer, and in Tokyo, one of the city’s most iconic music hubs is leading the tribute.

Tower Records Shibuya, a popular pilgrimage spot for music lovers, has set up a special flower tribute stand on the first floor of the store. The tribute, which runs from June 25 to June 30, invites fans to express their love and respect by laying down flowers and written messages in honor of Jackson’s legacy.

“Forever Michael!!” read a heartfelt post from the official Tower Records Shibuya account on X (formerly Twitter). “We’ve set up a memorial flower stand on the 1st floor with the utmost love and respect for the King of Pop in heaven.”

The memorial has already begun drawing attention from both local fans and international visitors. Pictures and messages shared across social media show fans lighting candles, placing rare memorabilia, and playing Jackson’s greatest hits at the site.

Globally, Michael Jackson fans are marking the day with tribute videos, social media posts, and dance covers of his most iconic performances. From Los Angeles to London and Tokyo to São Paulo, his music continues to resonate with generations of fans.

Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50. His sudden death stunned the world, but his influence endures through his timeless music, groundbreaking performances, and powerful cultural impact.

As Shibuya’s tribute stand remains open for the next five days, it serves as a poignant reminder that while the King of Pop may be gone, his legacy continues to live on—louder and stronger with every beat.
