Actor, archer, and karate expert Shihan Hussaini, known affectionately as “Hu,” passed away after a courageous fight with blood cancer. His family shared the news on March 25, 2025, confirming his death at a private hospital in Chennai.
Final Tribute at Besant Nagar Residence
In an emotional Facebook post, the family announced that Hussaini’s mortal remains would be at his Besant Nagar home until the evening, where friends, fans, and well-wishers could pay their respects. The final rites will take place in Madurai. The family also invited his students to honor him in their shooting uniforms, with a request for those who could to bring their bows and arrows to shoot a few arrows in his memory.
A Brave Decision in His Final Days
In the days before his passing, Hussaini had shared updates about his health on social media. In one post, he revealed his decision to donate his body for medical research, stating, “Signed it. This will be used for teaching purposes for anatomy to medical students…Preparing for death but not giving up.”
A Life of Achievements
Hussaini had a remarkable career. He made his acting debut in 1986 in Kamal Haasan’s Punnagai Mannan and later featured in Rajinikanth’s Velaikaran. Over the years, he appeared in various films including Bloodstone, Unnai Solli Kutramillai, Badri, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, Chennai City Gangsters, and Vedan. Besides acting, he was widely respected for his expertise in karate and archery.
Support from the Community
The Tamil Nadu government had supported Hussaini’s cancer treatment with financial aid of Rs 5 lakh. He is survived by his wife and daughter, who, along with his many fans and students, will remember him for his contributions to the arts and martial arts.
