Bollywood’s ‘item songs’ have always sparked mixed reactions from audiences, with some performers embracing their work, while others have a different perspective. Shreya Ghoshal, however, recently shared her discomfort regarding the infamous track Chikni Chameli (Agneepath, 2012), a raunchy dance number featuring Katrina Kaif. In a candid interview, the singer admitted feeling embarrassed by her involvement in the song and expressed her desire not to be associated with such content in the future.
Reflecting on her experience with Chikni Chameli, Shreya explained, “There are a few songs I’ve sung that could be considered borderline raunchy, like Chikni Chameli. There’s a very fine line between being sensual and being overly sexual, and there’s a risk of crossing into objectification.” She further mentioned her growing discomfort as she sees young girls singing along to the song, adding, “I’ve become more conscious of this over time, especially seeing young children singing it.”
