Sigma’s Bold New Design: The BF Camera for Those Who Love Simplicity

Sigma has unveiled the Sigma BF, a sleek, 24.6-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera designed to simplify the photography experience. Featuring a minimalist design with just three buttons, a dial, and a shutter release, the BF aims to “evoke the essence of photography” by eliminating distractions and focusing solely on the joy of capturing images.

Weighing only 13.7 ounces (388 grams) and measuring 5.1 by 2.9 by 1.4 inches, the Sigma BF is an L-mount camera built for photographers who prefer simplicity. Its user interface is entirely unique, offering easy access to core settings such as shutter speed, ISO, aperture, EV compensation, and color mode at the touch of a finger. The primary settings appear on the live view screen, with additional options accessible via menus, keeping the interface clean and clutter-free.

A standout feature of the Sigma BF is its haptic feedback system, which is integrated into the camera’s dial, center button, and option buttons. These tactile cues make adjusting settings both accurate and comfortable. The rear display, with a resolution of approximately 2.1 million dots, presents only essential information by default, allowing users to immerse themselves fully in the moment of capturing an image.

In terms of design, the BF introduces a “true unibody” structure, crafted from a single block of aluminum—a process that takes over seven hours. This design ensures both rigidity and a balanced weight that complements any attached lens. The camera also comes with a built-in 230GB SSD, which holds up to 14,000 JPEGs, 4,300 uncompressed RAW images, or 2.5 hours of video at maximum quality. Connectivity is streamlined with a USB-C port for transferring files.

The Sigma BF boasts a hybrid autofocus system that combines phase detection and contrast detection, ensuring fast and precise focusing, particularly on people and animals. The camera also supports 6K video recording in L-Log format, with frame rates of up to 29.97 fps for 6K/4K and up to 119.88 fps for Full HD video.

Photographers can choose from 13 distinct color modes, including options like Standard, Forest Green, Sunset Red, Cinema, and Monochrome, offering diverse creative possibilities. Sigma has provided sample images taken with the BF, showcasing its capabilities in various settings, from nighttime urban streets to serene outdoor landscapes.

The Sigma BF will be available in black or silver and is expected to ship by April 2025, with a retail price of $1,999. Sigma is also updating its I Series of compact prime lenses to match the BF’s design, offering a new silver color option for the L-mount lenses and improving the lens caps for added convenience.

The Sigma BF stands out not only for its simplicity but for its high-quality performance and cutting-edge design, catering to photographers who value an intuitive, distraction-free experience.
