Celebrated Telugu lyricist and writer Siva Shakthi Datta passed away peacefully at his home in Manikonda on July 7. Known for his Sanskrit-inspired lyrics in popular Telugu films, he was the father of famous music composer MM Keeravaani and the uncle of acclaimed director SS Rajamouli.

Datta contributed unforgettable songs to blockbuster films like Baahubali, RRR, and HanuMan. At 92, he had been unwell due to age-related health issues. The news of his passing became public on July 8, confirmed by actor Chiranjeevi on X (formerly Twitter), who expressed his deep shock and condolences. Actor Mahesh Babu also visited to pay his respects.

Born as Koduri Subbarao in 1932 in Kovvu, near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Datta began his career using the pen name Kamalesh before adopting the name Siva Shakthi Datta. A gifted lyricist, screenwriter, and painter, he wrote lyrics for many hit films including Magadheera, Sye, Rajanna, and Sri Ramadasu. Some of his memorable songs are “Anjandri Theme Song,” “Amma Avani,” “Raamam Raghavam,” and “Agni Skalana.” He also directed the film Chandrahas in 2007.

Siva Shakthi Datta’s funeral is scheduled to take place in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Fans and celebrities continue to honor his legacy and mourn the loss of this multifaceted genius.
