Sky has launched the second generation of its Sky Glass TV, which doesn’t require a satellite dish, offering a more streamlined experience with just an internet connection. But how does the Gen 2 version compare to the first? While Sky Glass Gen 1 received solid reviews, Gen 2 brings some notable upgrades. Let’s take a closer look at how the two models measure up.

Price Comparison:

Both models are priced the same, as the second-gen Sky Glass replaces the first. You can choose a TV size (43, 55, or 65 inches) and sign up for a 24 or 48-month subscription. Once the contract ends, it works like a regular TV without Sky’s features unless you renew your contract.

If the price is too high, Sky will release a cheaper version called Sky Glass Air later this year.

Design Changes:

At first glance, the two models look similar, but there are a few changes. The stand system has been improved for easier assembly, and the TV can now be wall-mounted with more flexibility. Gen 2 also introduces three new colors: Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue, though there are fewer color options compared to the original model.

New Features:

Gen 2 still offers a 4K HDR TV with built-in Sky and a Dolby Atmos sound system. The main upgrade is the improved brightness and better local dimming, resulting in more precise brightness control. The TV also has better viewing angles and updated picture and sound modes. The built-in speaker has been enhanced with additional up-firing speakers, offering a richer 360-degree sound.

Sky OS now runs on Gen 2, replacing the previous Entertainment OS. Gen 2 supports the same HDR formats but still lacks next-gen gaming features like 4K@120Hz and VRR.

Picture Quality:

We haven’t reviewed the Gen 2 picture quality yet, but the added brightness and dimming zones should offer improvements. Gen 1 had some issues with color vibrancy and motion, so we expect Gen 2 to perform better in these areas.

Sound Quality:

The sound upgrade in Gen 2 could be its standout feature. With added height channels and up-firing speakers, the sound is expected to be more immersive and realistic than the Gen 1, which already had decent audio for the price.

Final Verdict:

Gen 2 is set to replace Gen 1, offering improved features, sound, and picture quality. It will be the new standard, while the budget-friendly Sky Glass Air will provide a more affordable option.
