Some users in Nepal have recently received fake SMS messages claiming to be from eSewa, a popular digital wallet service. According to eSewa, scammers are using a shortcode called “AT Alert” to send these misleading texts to customers.
eSewa Urges Users Not to Click Suspicious Links
In a public notice shared on Tuesday, eSewa clearly stated that these messages are not sent by them. They have requested users to avoid clicking on any links in such SMS messages and to never share their personal or financial information through them.
Only Trust SMS from Official eSewa Sources
eSewa clarified that all official SMS notifications are only sent from the following sources: eSewa, eSewa Alert, 32131, and 32121. If users receive messages from other names or numbers, they should ignore them immediately.
eSewa Will Never Ask for Your OTP or Password
The company has also reminded customers that it will never ask for sensitive details like OTP (One Time Password), MPIN, or account passwords. These details should never be shared with anyone, even if the message claims to be from eSewa.
Stay Alert and Protect Your Information
eSewa has encouraged all users to stay alert and help stop the spread of scams. If you receive any suspicious messages, report them and avoid interacting with the sender.
