K-pop star Solar of MAMAMOO is expanding her musical horizons with the release of her first Mandarin single, “Floating Free,” scheduled for June 11, 2025. The single will drop digitally at 12:00 AM TST (GMT+8), followed by the official music video premiere at 6:00 PM TST the same day.
The song is a collaborative effort with Taiwanese singer-songwriter 9m88, celebrated for her distinctive blend of R&B, neo-soul, jazz, and pop. This marks a significant move for Solar as she ventures into the Mandarin music market, showcasing her versatility and artistic growth.
Leading up to the release, both artists have been teasing fans on social media. Solar shared a FaceTime-style video titled “Connected: Face Time,” highlighting their virtual interaction and the song’s theme of long-distance connection. Additionally, a “Guess Who?” teaser built anticipation for the collaboration.
“Floating Free” will be part of Solar’s upcoming Chinese EP, also titled Floating Free, which is set to release on July 4, 2025. The EP aims to blend contemporary love themes with the retro vibes of city-pop, reflecting Solar’s evolving musical style.
To celebrate the release, Solar is scheduled to perform at a fan concert called Floating Free: Between in Taipei on June 22, 2025, at the Taipei International Convention Center. The event promises an intimate experience for fans, deepening the connection between the artist and her audience.
