Sony Raises PlayStation Plus Prices in Canada Again

Sony has announced that PlayStation Plus subscription prices will increase in Canada starting June 24, 2025. This is the second price increase since September 2023, and it affects all three subscription tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium.

New Prices for Canadian Subscribers

Here are the updated 12-month subscription prices for each tier:

  • Essential: $109.99 CAD (was $94.99 CAD)
  • Extra: $189.99 CAD (was $154.99 CAD)
  • Premium: $224.99 CAD (was $189.99 CAD)

This means:

  • Essential is going up by 15.8%
  • Extra is increasing by 22.6%
  • Premium will rise by 18.4%

Why Is Sony Increasing Prices?

Sony explained the price increase in an email to users. The company said it needs to adjust pricing to “keep delivering high-quality games and benefits” to subscribers. However, many gamers say they haven’t seen any new features or major content upgrades to support the higher cost.

Gamers Are Unhappy With the Changes

After the announcement, players quickly reacted on social media platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Many questioned whether PlayStation Plus still offers enough value, especially when compared to competitors like Xbox Game Pass.

Not the Only Price Increase From Sony

This PlayStation Plus price hike comes after earlier PlayStation 5 console price increases in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK. Sony’s pricing strategy seems to follow a broader industry trend, where companies are raising prices due to economic pressures and higher operational costs.

Should You Keep Your PlayStation Plus Subscription?

With rising prices and no new benefits added, many users are considering whether to renew their subscription or switch to other services. If you’re in Canada, it may be a good time to compare what you’re getting with PlayStation Plus versus what others like Xbox Game Pass or Nintendo Switch Online offer.
