Speaker Devraj Ghimire is informing the Parliament about the arrest of Nepali Congress lawmaker Maya Rai. MP Rai was arrested on Saturday evening.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat has already received the information regarding her arrest. Speaker Ghimire is announcing this information in the Parliament on Sunday.
Rule 248 of the House of Representatives Regulations provides provisions regarding the notification of a member’s arrest.
According to Sub-rule 1 of Rule 248, if information about the arrest of a member is received, the Speaker must immediately inform the House.
If the House is not in session when the information is received, the notice must be posted on the information board. If the House is in session, the information must be announced during the meeting.
Accordingly, Speaker Ghimire is set to inform the House about the arrest of MP Rai. The House of Representatives meeting is scheduled to commence at 11 AM.
