Spain’s squash legend, Borja Golán, has arrived in Nepal for a week-long training camp to help local players improve their skills. Invited by the Nepal Squash and Rackets Association (NSRA), Borja will share his expertise with both players and coaches in the country.
Borja, who was once ranked among the top five squash players in the world (2014), is now a Level 3 coach. He dominated Spain’s squash scene, winning 17 national titles, securing 33 PSA Squash Tour championships, and claiming the European Individual Champion title twice before retiring in 2023.
After retiring, Borja established the Golán Squash Academy, which trains and supports rising squash talents. One of Nepal’s promising players, Amrit Thapa Magar, is already training at his academy.
A Warm Welcome in Nepal
Borja received a grand welcome at a special event organized by NSRA in Satdobato, Lalitpur. Speaking at the event, he expressed his excitement about being in Nepal.
“I have heard so much about Nepal,” Borja shared. “I am here to help develop squash in the country and also learn something new.”
A Boost for Nepali Squash
NSRA President Dhurba Bahadur Gurung believes Borja’s presence will enhance the skills of Nepali players. He also requested the Golán Squash Academy to arrange international squash tours for Nepali players.
Additionally, Lalitpur District Sports Development Committee Chairman Binod Maharjan announced plans to build a new squash court in Hetauda, further supporting the sport’s growth.
Borja’s visit was made possible by Renzo Andorno, and his expertise will not only benefit players but also coaches, helping Nepal take big steps forward in squash!
