Tamil Actor Srikanth Arrested After Cocaine Use Confirmed in Drug Trafficking Probe

South Indian actor Srikanth, widely known for his roles in Roja Kootam and Parthiban Kanavu, has been arrested by Chennai police in connection with a high-profile drug investigation. The case emerged following the arrest of former AIADMK functionary Prasad, who was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. During interrogation, Prasad claimed he had supplied drugs—including cocaine—to Srikanth.

According to reports, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) summoned Srikanth for questioning, after which he was sent for medical examination at Kilpauk Government Hospital. The results confirmed the presence of narcotic substances in his system, prompting authorities to arrest him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A News18 Tamil report further revealed that Srikanth may have purchased one gram of cocaine for ₹12,000, an allegation still under investigation.

A Look at Srikanth’s Career and Background

Born Krishnamachari Srikanth on February 28, 1979, the actor hails from Chennai and comes from a culturally blended family—with a Telugu father and a Tamil mother. He spent a portion of his formative years in Hyderabad. Srikanth began his acting career on television, appearing in the 1999 Tamil serial Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal, helmed by veteran director K. Balachander.

His cinematic breakthrough came with the 2002 romantic drama Roja Kootam, directed by Sasi, which earned him critical and commercial acclaim. He soon followed up with notable performances in April Maadhathil, Manasellam, and Parthiban Kanavu, the latter securing him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize.

In Telugu cinema, he is credited as “Sriram” and has showcased his versatility across various genres. Married to Vandana since 2008, Srikanth is a father of two. His body of work includes films such as Varnajalam, Kana Kandein, Poo, Sathurangam, and Nanban. He also appeared in the digital space through the JioHotstar web series Harikatha.

Srikanth’s arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics in Tamil Nadu’s entertainment and political circles. Investigations are still underway to determine the full extent of his involvement.
