The body of Sudip Neupane, a resident of Kalikanagar, Butwal-11, who lost his life in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, has been brought home this morning. According to family sources, Sudip’s final rites will be performed today at the Triveni Ghat.
Sudip was shot dead by an armed assailant on Tuesday afternoon. Rupandehi Police Chief, Superintendent of Police Ranjit Singh Rathore, informed that his body was flown from New Delhi to Lucknow and then transported by road to Nepal via the Belahiya border.
This morning (Thursday), just before 7 AM, Sudip’s body arrived at the Belahiya border. On the Indian side, his body was handed over to his relatives under the supervision of security personnel. From there, the body was brought in an ambulance to his home on Manakamana Path, Kalikanagar, Butwal-11.
Even before the body arrived, Sudip’s home was crowded with relatives and neighbors. Since the news of his passing broke on Tuesday, locals and family members have been in mourning. When the body was brought home, many relatives and neighbors broke down in tears.
The 27-year-old had traveled from Butwal to the picturesque Vaishran Valley—also known as Mini Switzerland of Kashmir—on Saturday along with his mother Rimakala, sister Sushma, and brother-in-law Yuvaraj Kafle. While enjoying their visit there, armed terrorists suddenly opened fire on Tuesday afternoon, killing Sudip.
His mother, sister, and brother-in-law managed to escape the attack and save their lives. Rimakala sustained minor injuries while fleeing. The three of them returned to Butwal along with Sudip’s body. After his parents separated, Sudip had been living in Kalikanagar, Butwal-11, with his mother and sister.
Earlier, their home was in Belbariya, Butwal-14. The family’s ancestral home is in Ward No. 4 of Bagnaskali Rural Municipality, Palpa.
Sudip’s father, Dhruba Neupane, who is involved in the teaching profession, was in Kathmandu participating in a teachers’ protest. He learned about the tragic incident involving his son while returning home on Tuesday.
