Ahn Sung Hyun, husband of singer and actress Sung Yuri, has been granted bail following his conviction in a high-profile cryptocurrency fraud and bribery case.
On June 11, News1 reported that the Seoul High Court’s Criminal Division 13 — led by Judges Baek Kang Jin, Kim Sun Hee, and Yoo Dong Kyun — approved Ahn’s bail request. Ahn faces serious charges under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, including fraud and bribery linked to cryptocurrency exchange listings.
As part of the bail conditions, the court set a deposit of 50 million KRW (approximately 36,000 USD), imposed restrictions on Ahn’s residence, prohibited any contact with co-defendants or witnesses, and required prior court approval for any overseas travel.
This development comes months after the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced Ahn to four years and six months in prison in December last year. The court also ordered the confiscation of two luxury watches he received as bribes. Alongside him, Bithumb Holdings’ former CEO Lee Sang Joon received a two-year prison term and was ordered to forfeit over 50 million won, while businessman Kang Jong Hyun, who sought the crypto listing, was handed a sentence of one year and six months.
Ahn had allegedly conspired with Kang — often identified as the actual owner of cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb — to facilitate the listing of specific cryptocurrencies. Additionally, he was accused of defrauding Kang by falsely claiming that Bithumb’s CEO urgently needed a 2 billion won listing fee, which Ahn then embezzled.
Prior to the trial, Sung Yuri had expressed hopes that the “truth behind the pain and injustice” her family was enduring would eventually be revealed. However, following the conviction, she faced backlash from the public. After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, she returned to television through a home shopping appearance last month — marking her comeback four months after Ahn’s detention.
