For months, whispers of a split between Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja have made the rounds, sparking concern among fans of the long-time couple. Now, Sunita has addressed the speculation head-on—and with her trademark wit.
Govinda and Sunita tied the knot back in 1987, well before Govinda’s rise to fame in Bollywood. Despite recent media buzz suggesting trouble in paradise, Sunita has made it clear that the chatter doesn’t affect her.
“Don’t Believe Anything Until You Hear It From Us”
Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Sunita responded sharply when asked about the divorce rumors:
“Tu zyada hi bol raha hai beta” (“You’re talking too much now, son”), she quipped.
She went on to say,
“Mere ko koi farak nahi padhta koi bhi news aajaye. Maine pehle bhi bola hai jab tak hamare mou se nahi sunoge, koi bhi news ko react mat karna. Jab tak hum nai mou khole, baadme sab gole hie gole.”
(“It doesn’t matter to me what news comes out. I’ve said it before—unless you hear it from us, don’t react to anything. Until we speak, everything is just rumors.”)
Earlier Response: “People Will Always Bark”
This isn’t the first time Sunita has brushed off the gossip. In an earlier interview with ABP, she boldly addressed the ongoing speculation about their marriage.
“Positive hai ya negative hai. Positive hai mujhe pata hai. Mai sochti hu kuttey hai log bhaukenge,” she said.
(“Whether it’s positive or negative… I know it’s positive. I think people are like dogs—they will bark.”)
Divorce Filing Confirmed, But Couple Now Reconciled
Back in February, reports emerged claiming that the couple had filed for divorce after 38 years of marriage. Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, confirmed that Sunita had indeed filed the papers six months earlier. However, he emphasized that the couple had since reconciled.
In a statement to India Today, Bindal said,“We also travelled to Nepal during the New Year and performed puja together at Pashupatinath Mandir. Everything is fine between them now. These things happen between couples, but they are going strong and will always be together.”
Family and Future Plans
Govinda and Sunita, who kept their marriage private until after the birth of their daughter Tina in 1988, also share a son, Yashvardhan, born in 1997. Now, the couple is looking forward to a new chapter as Yashvardhan is preparing to make his Bollywood debut. He will star in a romantic drama directed by National Award-winner Sai Rajesh, known for acclaimed Telugu films such as Colour Photo, Hrudaya Kaleyam, and Baby.
