Sunmaya Budha Wins Hong Kong 100km Ultra Marathon

Sunmaya believes her success in the Hong Kong Marathon is not just personal but a victory for her country. "I will keep trying. I will not stop," she said.

Sunmaya Budha from Jumla won the 100 km Ultra Marathon in Hong Kong. She completed the race in 11 hours, 11 minutes, and 47 seconds.

Sunmaya finished 14 minutes and 25 seconds ahead of Slovakia’s Veronika Leng, who came second in 11 hours, 25 minutes, and 22 seconds. Vietnam’s Ha Thi Hau placed third with a time of 12 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

Sunmaya’s performance in this challenging race inspired many, said Saroj Shahi, President of Karnali Sports Club. He added that she not only won the competition but also broke records, making her victory even more remarkable.

Throughout the race, Sunmaya maintained a balanced approach. Despite Hong Kong’s terrain, fatigue, and unpredictable weather, her endurance, patience, and mental preparation led her to victory, said renowned runner Rokaya.

Sunmaya’s journey from the tough terrain of Jumla to international success demonstrates her deep dedication to sports. Shahi emphasized that the challenges Sunmaya faced during training, along with her disciplined lifestyle, played a big role in her achievement.

Sunmaya believes her success in the Hong Kong Marathon is not just personal but a victory for her country. “I will keep trying. I will not stop,” she said.

Her achievement has inspired many, especially Nepali women, by showing that they too can contribute to sports. Coach Haribahadur Rokaya believes Sunmaya’s determination and success offer a role model for women in sports.
