Superman Reboot Introduces Baby Joey: Here’s What We Know About the Mysterious Infant in the Final Trailer

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot is shaping up to be a game-changer for the DC Universe. With David Corenswet stepping into the shoes of Clark Kent, the film promises not just a fresh face for the iconic superhero but a complete reimagining of his world. As the new DCU era begins to unfold, fans are in for a packed lineup of characters and storylines.

Alongside the Man of Steel, audiences will meet several DC heroes and villains making their cinematic debut. Nicholas Hoult will portray the brilliant yet diabolical Lex Luthor, while Skyler Gisondo appears as Superman’s loyal friend Jimmy Olsen. The film also brings Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as the quirky Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as the fierce Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as the tech-savvy Mister Terrific.

However, the final trailer released on June 12 teased something unexpected—an alien-like green baby cradled in Superman’s arms amid chaos in Metropolis. This surprising shot has sparked fan theories and online chatter, with many pointing to one intriguing possibility: Baby Joey.

Who Is Baby Joey?

Though not yet officially confirmed by the filmmakers, fans believe the mysterious infant is Baby Joey, a character featured in Superman’s Friends and Foes, a tie-in book for the film. In the comics, Baby Joey is Joseph Mason, the son of Rex Mason—better known as Metamorpho—and Sapphire Stagg. In the Earth-0 (New Earth) continuity, Joey’s origins are rooted in a complex family dynamic, often associated with the legacy of Stagg Industries.

While his appearance in the film is expected to be brief, Baby Joey’s role might be pivotal to the plot. Given the emotional weight of the trailer’s final scene and its dramatic visual of Superman holding the baby as the city crumbles, it’s likely Joey will serve as a symbolic and narrative turning point in the story.

Why Baby Joey Matters

Introducing Baby Joey in the early stages of the DCU could lay the foundation for future arcs involving Metamorpho’s family and their ties to other major DC players. The fact that toys and promotional materials hint at his presence only reinforces the idea that this is more than a one-off cameo.

As Superman flies into theaters on July 11, fans are eagerly waiting to see how this mysterious child fits into James Gunn’s larger vision for the DC Universe—and what his arrival might mean for Superman’s journey ahead.

One thing is certain: the new era of DC has officially begun, and it’s full of surprises.
