The Supreme Court on Monday lifted the ban on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, allowing him to continue uploading his popular podcast, The Ranveer Show. However, the court has set a condition that his content must uphold “morality and decency” and be appropriate for viewers of all ages.

Background of the Case

Allahbadia, known for his YouTube channel Beer Biceps, was previously barred from airing his podcast after making controversial remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. His comments sparked outrage and led to multiple FIRs being filed against him.

Court’s Decision and Conditions

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh considered Allahbadia’s plea, in which he stated that the podcast was his only source of income and that nearly 280 employees depended on it. Taking this into account, the court allowed him to resume his content creation but ordered him to submit an undertaking to ensure responsible and respectful content.

Additionally, the court extended his interim protection from arrest until further notice but directed him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation in Guwahati. Both the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and Mumbai Police are currently looking into his remarks.

Ranveer Allahbadia’s Statement to Authorities

On Monday, Allahbadia, alongside fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber officials to record statements in connection with an obscenity case registered against them and others.

In his statement, Allahbadia acknowledged that he made a mistake by using controversial language during the show and took full responsibility for the comments that led to public criticism. He also clarified that Samay Raina, the show’s host, is a close friend of his, and that he had attended the show purely to support Raina. Allahbadia further confirmed that he did not charge any fee for appearing on the show.

This ruling provides relief to Allahbadia and his team while also holding him accountable for maintaining ethical content standards.
