Tahira Kashyap, an author and filmmaker, has been very open about her fight with breast cancer. She often shared updates on her Instagram about her journey. However, one of those posts upset her parents, as she recently shared in an interview.
In 2018, Tahira was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her treatment, she lost her hair due to chemotherapy. She decided to post a picture of herself with a bald head, showing that she was embracing her new look. But her parents didn’t react well to it. Tahira recalled that they were very upset and didn’t talk to her. They even asked her to remove the picture because they felt a bald look on a woman was a sign of something terrible. However, Tahira stood her ground, saying, “I am celebrating this moment, and you need to understand that.” Her parents thought she wasn’t in her right mind and couldn’t understand why she would celebrate something like being physically unwell.
Tahira then decided to video call her mother to explain. She showed her bald look and told her mother, “This is how I look right now, and I’m loving it.” She also wore goggles in the video call, trying to make her mother smile. Tahira explained that this was just a part of life, and she wanted her parents to be happy for her, even if they didn’t fully understand how she felt.
Tahira first shared her breast cancer diagnosis in 2018 on Instagram. Throughout her treatment, she was very open, even posting a picture of her scar after having a mastectomy. She wanted to raise awareness and help others going through similar experiences. In 2024, she made her debut as a filmmaker with the movie Sharmajee Ki Beti on Amazon Prime Video.
