Taylor Swift faced a wave of boos from the crowd at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday when she appeared on the jumbotron at Caesars Superdome. The pop superstar, who was there to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, seemed caught off guard by the reaction, her expression shifting to nervous confusion.

This was Swift’s second Super Bowl appearance after attending last year’s event in Las Vegas to cheer on Kelce. However, some NFL fans have grown tired of the frequent focus on Swift during game broadcasts and in stadiums, which has led to mixed reactions whenever she is shown.

The boos directed at Swift came alongside another round of jeers aimed at the Chiefs as they ran onto the field before the game. The crowd in New Orleans was not shy about making their feelings known.

Swift was joined at the game by actress Blake Lively, rapper Ice Spice, and singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. While she is now closely associated with the Chiefs due to her relationship with Kelce, Swift originally grew up as a Philadelphia Eagles fan in Pennsylvania. However, after she and her father shifted their allegiance following her relationship with Kelce, some fans have not taken kindly to the change.

Adding to the night’s drama, the same crowd that booed Swift gave a loud cheer when former President Donald Trump appeared on the big screen. Trump was seen standing between New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, during the national anthem, which was also met with applause.

The reaction to Swift might have been influenced by her political stance. Last September, she publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Shortly after her endorsement, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to post, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” The strong reaction from the Superdome crowd suggests many in attendance may have shared Trump’s views.
