Tejasvi Surya, a BJP MP, has married Sivasri Skandaprasad, a prominent Carnatic singer. The ceremony, attended by close family and friends, took place in Bengaluru, with a grand reception to follow at the Gayatri Vihar grounds. The couple will also participate in additional rituals such as Kashi Yatra, Jeerige Bella Muhurtha, and Laja Home on March 6. Jeerige Bella is a significant ritual during South Indian weddings, while Laja Home involves the bride offering fried grains into a sacred fire.
Surya, a two-time Lok Sabha MP and President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, is tying the knot with Skandaprasad, who is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Skandaprasad, originally a Bioengineering graduate from Sastra University, chose to follow a career in the arts. She earned a Bharatanatyam degree from the University of Madras and is quite popular on social media with over 1.13 lakh followers on Instagram and more than two lakh subscribers on YouTube.
PM Narendra Modi had also praised Skandaprasad for her devotional rendition of a Kannada song ahead of the Ram Temple’s consecration in Ayodhya.
