Telugu film star Vijay Deverakonda is now under legal scrutiny after a complaint was filed against him by the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities, a tribal organization in India. The group expressed strong dissatisfaction with Vijay’s recent statements.
Complaint Filed Over Vijay’s Comments on Tribals
The complaint was officially registered at the Cyberabad Police Station in Rayadurgam on June 17, 2025, by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, president of the tribal committee. The case is currently under investigation, as reported by Indian media outlet Hindustan Times.
Controversial Statement Sparks Outrage
The controversy began when Vijay Deverakonda made a remark during a film event in Hyderabad a few months ago. He said, “Today’s terrorists fight like the tribals did 500 years ago.” Vijay was referring to the educational awareness level of both the terrorists involved in the Pulwama attack and the tribals from centuries ago.
Tribal Communities Express Hurt and Protest
However, the tribal communities were deeply offended by this comparison, feeling that it unfairly linked them to terrorism. This reaction led to the filing of the legal complaint against Vijay Deverakonda.
Vijay Issues Public Apology
In response, Vijay took to social media to apologize, stating that he never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings or dignity. He emphasized that his remarks were misunderstood and that he respects the sentiments of the tribal community.
This incident highlights the sensitivity required when public figures speak on historical and social matters, especially involving marginalized communities.
