Biratnagar, Nepal – A daring car theft at a Volkswagen showroom in Biratnagar ended in an unexpected arrest after the stolen vehicle ran out of fuel.

According to police reports, an unidentified individual broke into the showroom of Volkswagen Company, operated by Pooja International Nepal Pvt. Ltd., near Pipal Chowk in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-3. The suspect entered the showroom at midnight on Thursday, loaded items into the only car present, smashed the glass, and fled with the vehicle.

The theft was discovered on Friday morning when the showroom operator noticed the missing car and immediately informed the police at around 9 AM.

Acting swiftly, law enforcement launched an investigation and soon received a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle in Sunsari. Following the lead, a police team reached an inner road section of Gadhi Rural Municipality-5, where they recovered the stolen vehicle, a brand-new car with registration number Ba 0130 Cha 8581.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of 24-year-old Mantosh Kumar Bina, a resident of Gadhi Rural Municipality-4, who had been living in Biratnagar-4. Police stated that the suspect had planned to smuggle the car into India but was forced to abandon the plan after running out of fuel.

Investigators also revealed that the theft was made easier as the car keys were left inside the vehicle. The stolen car is estimated to be worth 80 lakh rupees.

Morang Police’s acting spokesperson, Inspector Hemraj Oli, confirmed the arrest and stated that further legal action is being pursued against the suspect.
